Pleasepleasepleeeeeeaaaaaaaase....DON'T laugh at me....BUT....

OMG!!!

GULP!!!

How do you say "Arkansas"????

I always say it like "Kansas" (ie: pronouncing the "sas" as it looks).

BUT....

Is it true that Arkansas is actually pronounced "Arkan-SAW"???

If so....WHY??????

WHY do you have to confuse me with these weird ways of saying your states????

Please explain!!!!???

AuslanGirl

P.S....I won't even get started at all the weird towns named after Indian tribes you;ve got going there!!...but then, I, as an Aussie can't talk...we've got Yuendemu, Uluru, Katatjuta, Binnarang-mar etc etc...."Koori" (Aboriginal) names!

So I climbed in the cabin and I settled down inside.

He asked me if I'd seen a road with so much dust and sand, I said

"Listen, mate, I've travelled ev'ry road in this here land."

[Chorus:]

Cos "I've been everywhere, man,

Most of us have no idea why anyone in Arkansas does anything they do.

Something to remember though, here in the US we're famous for either mispronouncing places that were originally named by a random tribe of Indians of a language that no one speaks anymore, OR mispronouncing names of cities that were named after places or cities in Europe but we don't "say" it that way.

For example, my hometown has two small cities near it, one is named Russia and one is named Versailles. They pronounce Russia "Rushy" and they call Versailles "Versails". God only knows how badly we mispronounce the stuff that still has original Indian names....
