a poem

I twisted and bent and turned blue

to be all I could to you

to deny myself and not to live me

to be what you wanted so I could give me

But it wasn't enough.

Oh, you took me gladly, but left me still

watching as you drained me, took your fill

You drank and ate of the blood in my heart.

You saw nothing of me, just killed a part.

What did you want?

Did you want the truth? did you want the cries?

did you want all the puzzled pain to rise?

Swamp you, drown you, pull you under?

want me to rain? want me to thunder?

No you wanted what you could understand

I gave you that. But that was too bland.

And so goodbye, your phoey eyes drowned me

and you thought you knew? thought you found me?

put me in a box, labelled with a sign

and closed up with tape all that was mine.

I tried to be all, to be less and more

It wasn't enough. So you ripped me raw.

Thanks for bumping that Patti, and posting it, tilly. That was such a beautiful way of stating our reality.
